PDO Threads
PDO Threads
PDO Thread treatments offer a powerful, non-surgical solution to lift and rejuvenate the skin with little downtime. Using medical-grade PDO (polydioxanone) threads, a safe, absorbable material used in surgical sutures, this treatment can provide both instant lifting and long-term collagen stimulation for firmer, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin.
At GFaceMD, we offer two types of PDO threads, each designed to target different concerns and levels of support:
- Lifting Threads have tiny barbs that gently anchor the skin, creating an immediate lifting and contouring effect. They’re ideal for areas such as the jawline, cheeks, brows, neck, and lower face, helping restore definition and reduce sagging without surgery.
- Smooth Threads are placed beneath the skin to tighten, firm, and improve texture. Smooth PDO threads don’t lift but instead stimulate collagen and elastin production, making them perfect for treating fine lines, creasing, or areas of early laxity such as around the eyes, nasolabial fold, marionettes, lips, neck, and décolletage.
Over time, as the PDO threads dissolve naturally, they trigger the body’s healing response, boosting collagen, improving elasticity, and restoring volume. The result is natural-looking rejuvenation that continues to improve for months after treatment.
Thread Lifts FAQs
What are Thread Lifts?
A thread lift is a procedure where temporary sutures made of polydioxanone are placed strategically in the skin to produce a subtle but visible “lift” in the skin.
These sutures are specifically designed to be reabsorbed by the body over 4- 6 months. Instead of a more invasive facelift, where the patient’s loose facial skin is removed surgically, this treatment is done in-office and has the immediate effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. Over the course of 4-6 months, the threads elicit the body’s “healing response” and stimulate collagen production.
This is important, as collagen helps keep our skin strong, voluminous, and supple, and the loss of collagen is one of the significant contributors to the aging process.
What are Smoothing Threads?
Polydioxanone (PDO) Smoothing threads are a simple and relatively painless way to soften fine lines and wrinkles gently, tight, lift, and even plump different regions of the face. The threads are placed in a specific fashion, under the skin, and over the next 4-6 months, your body will produce more natural collagen to lift, plump, support, and smooth the skin. Smoothing threads can be used in the face, lips, neck, chest, and other areas of the body.
Who are the best candidates for thread lifts?
Thread lifts are most suitable for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity signs rather than severe signs. A thread lift candidate is usually in their late thirties to early fifties, whereas patients over 55 will benefit more from a surgical facelift.
How soon will I notice any results?
Is there any recovery or downtime?
Typically, a PDO thread lift requires a 2-week recovery period, but you'll experience most of your restrictions and limitations immediately following your treatment. During this time, temporary soreness or swelling of the face can be expected, but it will disappear within a week.
How long do Thread Lifts usually last?
You can expect the effects from PDO threads to last a long time. The thread itself is present for 4-6 months before being absorbed by the natural process of hydrolysis. The skin is pulled and tightened during this entire period, after which the skin stays put and collagen continues to be produced. A thread lift typically lasts 12-15 months on average for most patients.
