Our skin being the largest organ of the body makes it easier for it to absorb harmful chemicals and ingredients into the bloodstream. It’s very important to educate ourselves about dangerous ingredients that we don’t know are in our skincare products that lead to health complications. Spotting some key ingredients can help one decode the list behind your skincare care bottles that we tend to avoid. Using products that are organic and free of some of these ingredients can not only improve your skin but save one from health issues that might arise from it.   • Synthetic Fragrance: commonly known as Parfum, are irritating to the skin and can cause an allergic reaction and contact dermatitis.
  • Parabens: mimic estrogen in the body, disrupting the normal function of hormones in the body ultimately affecting the female’s reproductive system and outcomes of pregnancy and birth of the baby.
  • Petrolatum: petrolatum, commonly known as petroleum jelly,  is oftentimes used to smooth and soften the skin. However, it isn’t the best ingredient to use daily. It can accumulate in the fatty tissue, resulting in estrogen dominance further imparting the reproductive system. It can cause irritation,contact dermatitis and  collagen breakdown leading to wrinkles! Isoparaffins are driven from petroleum and can have cross contamination with 1,4-dioxane, which is a substance known to be carcinogenic, causing cancer. 1,4-dioxane is also linked to be toxic to the kidneys
  • Preservatives: Preservatives such as Formaldehyde, are used to prevent bacteria and mold to build up in products but are carcinogenic and flammable.
  • “Bad”Alcohols: Bad alcohols such as Ethyl alcohol, denatured alcohol, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, SD alcohol, and benzyl alcohol are drying and irritating to the skin.
  • Mineral Oil: Mineral oil is a petrochemical that has been used by farmers as a pesticide to kill plants.They are used as an emollient to lock the moisture in the skin, keeping it hydrated. It has been associated with nonmelanoma
