Overall Lip Care

What are the biggest issues that affect our lips, especially after a long winter? What about wearing masks for lip care?

Most of us have experienced dehydration, cracking, and overly chapped lips due to the cold weather and the addition of masks. During the winter, the cold dry air draws moisture from the skin. The skin of the lips is very thin making them more prone to dryness and cracking. Instinctively, we lick our lips to try to moisturize them but this actually worsens the cycle. The saliva evaporates and takes additional moisture with it. The lips lack oil glands, so they cannot produce their own moisture. It is important to supply our lips with moisturizing ingredients such as petrolatum, lanolin (beware of allergic reactions), beeswax, and ceramides. Other natural ingredients that are incredibly soothing include aloe, coconut oil, honey, cucumber, and green tea. Avoid ingredients with drying alcohols such as simple alcohols like ethyl alcohol and SD alcohol. Avoid other ingredients such as menthol, camphor, phenol, or mint, as they can be drying.

What else can be done to aid in hydration?

Although exfoliation is not necessary, it can be done once or twice a week to remove excess dry skin and aid in helping the absorption of hydrating products. You can also add a humidifier in your room while you sleep to prevent the dry air from causing chapped, cracked lips. Most importantly, make sure you are adding SPF to the lips all year round.

What are our favorite ways to enhance the lip area for lip care?

We suggest starting by adding lip plumper to give you a feel for what bigger, pinker lips would look like on you. There are many different ingredients used, but newer products use HA which helps to hydrate and plump. Our Levres Pure Precision Lip Polish will restore, enhance and hydrate your lips while giving them precision, performance, and protection. You will instantly see the difference with more defined and fuller lips, less noticeable fine lines, and lips that are more hydrated and healthier overall. If you are looking for more than a temporary lip plump, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers will also hydrate and plump your lips for a longer period of time.
