Happy Clean Beauty Day!

The term “clean” beauty has been a trending topic for the last year. More and more people are looking to transition to clean beauty products that are free from harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, artificial fragrances, and more. In the United States, the beauty industry is not strictly regulated. Compared to other countries, the United States is far behind when it comes to banning harmful chemicals that are common in beauty products. Since any company can label itself as “clean”, it is important to know the chemicals and ingredients to avoid.

What does “clean” mean at Soyier Skin?

At Soyier Skin, we pride ourselves on our products being paraben-free.What are parabens and why should you avoid them? Parabens are a group of preservatives and antimicrobial chemicals that prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. The problem with parabens stems from the evidence linking them to reproductive organ harm, thyroid disruption, hormone-related cancers, and obesity. Most people do not consider what effect these ingredients that are directly absorbed into the skin could have on your body long-term. In European countries, several types of parabens are banned for personal care products, but in the United States, they still remain.

Sulfates are surfactants that are commonly found within skincare and cleaning products. They were originally used to create a greater lather to remove dirt and oil. It is best to avoid sulfates because they commonly cause skin irritation. Sulfates can dry out the skin leading to more acne. Soyier Skin products are sulfate-free to ensure the best outcomes for all skin types.

In skincare, products can be naturally derived meaning the starting material of the product is of mineral, plant, microbe, or animal origin. From there, products can be chemically processed or combined in order to either improve performance or to make the ingredient biodegradable.

Soyier Skin products are non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, oil-free, and gluten-free in order to have the cleanest ingredients possible. Skincare products that are free from these ingredients cause fewer breakouts and irritation. The goal of Soyier Skin is to make skincare products that work for most skin types.

Dermatology tested does not mean skincare products are “clean”, but it can be helpful to know that a product is reviewed by a dermatologist; someone that specialized in treating skin, hair, and nails. It can be hard to keep track of ingredients to look for and avoid, so it is best to consult your own dermatologist to find the best routine for you.

Thinking even beyond humans, it is also important to consider the effects the beauty industry has on other living things. Soyier Skin is cruelty free meaning our products have not been tested on animals before being sold. It also means that none of our ingredients were extracted at the expense of animals.

We recommend checking out our natural and organic sub collection at Soyier Skin to ensure you are putting all the best ingredients into your body and skin. Look to transition all your beauty products (makeup, skincare, haircare) to clean products. Start by reading the ingredients on your current skincare products, and look to replace those containing harmful ingredients. Again, Happy National Clean Beauty Day!
