Pigmentation and Skincare

Many patients struggle with hyperpigmentation and seek out treatments to minimize pigment and prevent it in the future. Dark spots and pigment can appear from both internal and external factors, such as sun exposure, inflammation, hormones, or other skin conditions. There are a multitude of treatments for pigmentation that our office may recommend after a detailed assessment and consultation. These treatments include Clear and Brilliant laser treatments, VI peels, and Sylfirm X Radiofrequency and Microneedling, Aquagold Microneedling, and Skin Stylus Microneedling. Utilizing an everyday proper skincare routine is also essential in fighting pigmentation.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C works by blocking the enzyme tyrosinase and preventing melanin production. This makes vitamin C a skin brightener. It also is a potent antioxidant and prevents damage from free radicals in the environment. It is incredibly important to choose a vitamin C that is right for you, as certain forms can cause redness and irritation to the skin. I Soyier Skin Mélange Antioxydant: Vitamin C, E & Ferulic Acid Blend contains L- Ascorbic Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) 1%, and Ferulic Acid 0.5% essentially reverses hyperpigmentation and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, without irritating the skin.

Retinoids: Retinoids are a go-to for many different forms of pigmentation. Retinoids can treat a variety of conditions, including melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, keloids, and pseudofolliculitis barbae. Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A that increase cell turnover. Healthier, newer cells are brought to the skin’s surface. Retinoids block the transcription of tyrosinase, induce desquamation, and promote cell turnover. Older, pigmented cells are then exfoliated. Soyier Skin Retinol is a perfect starting place in your retinol journey!

Niacinamide: This is a form of vitamin B3 that interrupts the process of cell pigmentation, as well as fight free radicals. Niacinamide fosters skin elasticity and reduces redness and blotchiness. Soyier Skin’s Formule Jeunesse contains the perfect blend of hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to plump, hydrate, and help impede the pigmentation process.

Kojic Acid: Kojic acid also inhibits the tyrosinase enzymes, thus slowing formation of pigmentation. Kojic acid inhibits pigmentation of all kinds, including post- inflammatory pigmentation and sun- induced pigmentation.

Licorice Extract: Licorice root extract inhibits melanin production, brightening the appearance of dark spots. Licorice extract contains the compound liquirtin that works to disperse and remove melanin from the skin. Licorice root also prevents the production of pigmentation by blocking the enzyme tyrosinase.

Azelaic Acid: Azelaic acid carries significant skin calming effects. It can reduce redness in the face, even skin tone, and lighten dark spots. It also decreases pigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase. Azelaic acid may be a better choice for those who suffer from irritation from vitamin C. It is safe for all skin types.

Succinic Acid: Succinic acid also has the ability to reduce hyperpigmentation. It works to clear melanin from the oxidized and reduced state, and decrease intensity of the melanin color. In addition to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, it is safe for sensitive skin.

It is always wise to come in to GFaceMD for an advanced skincare assessment to discuss what products are right for you.
